Original Report

Reported By: Zach S.
Reported on: 11 Apr 2017
Issue: Placement
Bolt Number: 7
Severity:   3
Description: Serious horizontal crack is forming about 5 inches above the 7th bolt. This crack is about 3 feet wide and spans the entire bulge feature that the bolt was placed into. It seems likely that whips/weighting of the bolt initiated the crack, and may eventually cause the bottom part of the feature to detach. It's difficult to see the crack until the climber is above the bolt.
Bolt Type: Other
Hanger Type: Plated Modern

Admin Notes

Removed manky aluminum from chains and added quick link. We left large aluminum locker in place -- good condition. - Removed bolt #7 and filled the hole opening with epoxy putty. There was a horizontal fracture through the rock and bolt hole. There was not a good place for a bolt above or below. There is decent rock out right, but it is out of the bolt line. - Given these conditions, we hung a two foot perma-draw from the previously 8th bolt. You can clip the perma with the 6th bolt at your feet, but making clip is definitely harder. I am not sure if this is the best long-term solution. If you are at the Infirmary some time it would be worth taking a look to see if you think this is a reasonable solution. I attached an edited photo.
